Bus Stop

Comedy/Drama

Sept. 16-19

Director: Fran Austin

Bus Stop, originally a 1955 play by playwright William Inge, has been produced as a Broadway play, a movie starring Marilyn Monroe and two television specials.

This was Marilyn Monroe's break-out role playing Cherie.

Both a comedy and a drama, the play is set in a diner about 20 miles west of Kansas City in early March 1955. A freak snowstorm has halted the progress of the bus and the eight characters – four from the bus and four from the diner – have a weather-enforced layover in the diner from approximately 1-5 a.m. Romantic or quasi-romantic relationships ensue. The play was nominated for four Tony Awards in 1956. The 1956 movie was nominated for an Academy Award and two Golden Globe awards.
