"Johnny Moonbeam". To earn the coveted silver arrow, Johnny Moonbeam is required to take rain from the Rain God, fire from the Fire God, and maize from the Earth God. The quest is fraught with dangers, and manly courage is demanded of the 12-year-old boy. When at last he has overcome all obstacles, and holds three powers of the world in his hands, he is subjected to a further test, to determine how he proposes to use power. He returns to his tribe empty-handed.
"A Raisin in the Sun", named after a line from a Langston Hughes poem, relates the story of the Youngers, a Southside Chicago family trying to survive in cramped quarters. When Mama gets a $10,000 check from her husband’s life insurance, they consider moving to a larger house in a white suburb. Instead of stereotyped characters that would bear no resemblance to actual people, the author of the play invented a situation that was sometimes painfully realistic. The plot revolves around what the characters do given the opportunity to escape their cramped surroundings. A Raisin in the Sun is a collaborative production with the theatre department of University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.
"The Rainmaker" tells of Lizzie Curry, a plain farmwoman who has spent her life caring for a doting father and brothers and is now facing spinsterhood. Enter “the Rainmaker,” a con man with promises to bring rain to the drought-stricken Western state but instead offers romance for a night to Lizzie. An uplifting story that gets back to the basics of love, trust and the courage to dream – big or small.
